Simone Fontecchio Upgraded to Probable After Mystery Illness

Underdog NBA reported: 'Simone Fontecchio (illness) upgraded to probable Friday.'
Simone Fontecchio has officially been upgraded to probable for Friday's game after dealing with a generic illness. The NBA illness designation is the ultimate mid-season mystery box. It could mean a legitimate 102-degree fever, or it could mean a guy lost a high-stakes battle with a questionable room-service sandwich after a late flight.
Getting the Italian wing back is a welcome sight for a rotation that relies heavily on finding production in the margins. When Erik Spoelstra is missing a reliable floor spacer, he usually has to shuffle the deck and play some undrafted guy 25 minutes. Fontecchio returning to the second unit immediately balances out the floor.
But his return comes at a fascinating time for his own rhythm. Fontecchio started the first 14 games of the season scorching hot, shooting 50 percent from deep, before hitting a massive wall. Over his last four games before getting sick, he went a freezing 5-for-32 from the floor.
That kind of drastic shooting split is exactly why marginal roster updates actually matter for secondary markets. Bettors and fantasy managers who rely on his three-point volume have to figure out if a few days on the couch served as a reset, or if the cold streak is here to stay. You cannot just blindly trust the early-season numbers when the recent sample size looks like a construction site.
Expect Fontecchio to slide right back into his usual bench role on Friday night. If he starts hitting corner threes early, the Heat second unit will look a lot more dangerous. If the slump continues, Spoelstra will not hesitate to look further down the bench for someone who can actually put the ball in the basket.
