Victor Hedman and Brandon Hagel Return to Rescue the Lightning Lineup
Daily Faceoff reports: 'Lightning’s Victor Hedman, Hagel to return against Jets'
The are finally getting their pillars back just in time to stop the bleeding. and are officially returning to the lineup tonight against the , according to Daily Faceoff.
Getting a Norris-caliber defenseman and a top-six engine back on the same night is not just a standard roster update. It is a full-blown structural rescue mission for a team that has been leaking goals like a broken pipe.
The Lightning just wrapped up a miserable road trip where they gave up six goals to the and another five to the Utah Hockey Club. You do not need an advanced analytics degree to know that playing without your franchise defenseman is a bad time, but giving up 11 goals in 48 hours is the kind of math that ruins a season.
The timing could not be worse for the Jets. They are dragging their own baggage into this matchup, riding a three-game losing streak where they just got dismantled 5-1 by the Florida Panthers. They were probably hoping to face the battered version of the , not the fully operational version.
From a market perspective, injecting 's massive ice time and Hagel's relentless forechecking completely flips the script on this game. goes from a vulnerable target to a much tougher out, while has to figure out how to generate offense against a blue line that just got its boss back.
We will see if the can immediately integrate their returning stars and protect home ice tonight. If they drop another sloppy game with and Hagel back in the mix, the excuses officially run out before they head to face the on Halloween.
