Adam Schefter reported the double IR move on Wednesday afternoon.

The Carolina Panthers are heading into a Sunday night matchup against the Detroit Lions, and they have decided to do so without their two starting cornerbacks. Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson are both heading to injured reserve, which is exactly the kind of news you want to drop right before facing one of the most aggressive offenses in the NFL.

If you were looking for a reason to hammer the Lions' team total this weekend, Adam Schefter just handed it to you on a silver platter. Losing one starting corner is a problem. Losing both at the exact same time is a defensive emergency that usually ends with a practice squad guy getting cooked on national television.

Carolina is coming off a tight 21-18 loss to the , a game where their defense actually kept them breathing. Detroit, meanwhile, just hung 31 points on a very real New York Jets defense. Now, the Lions get to line up against a Panthers secondary that is currently holding open tryouts in the facility parking lot.

For Jaycee Horn, this is another brutal chapter in a career defined by bad injury luck. When he is on the field, he is a legitimate shutdown corner. The problem is keeping him on the field. Losing Mike Jackson alongside him means Carolina is entirely out of safety nets.

Sunday night is going to be a massive test for whatever defensive backs the Panthers manage to scrape together. Detroit is probably drawing up deep shots right now. Expect the betting lines to tilt heavily toward the Lions, and expect the Panthers to spend the next few days desperately searching for anyone who knows how to backpedal.
