Nuggets Hit the Panic Button, Shuffle Starting Lineup to Fix Leaky Defense
Underdog NBA reported the starting lineup change on Wednesday.
The are hitting the early-season rotation blender, rolling out a starting five of , Christian Braun, Brazile, Aaron Gordon, and for Wednesday's matchup against the .
When you have the best player on the planet, the supporting cast is supposed to fall into place. Instead, head coach Michael Malone is already shuffling the deck just a few games into the schedule.
The move comes right after a brutal 134-114 home loss to the Golden State Warriors. Denver's defense has looked less like a professional unit and more like a polite suggestion, giving up 135 and 134 points in their last two outings.
You do not need a spreadsheet to know that surrendering 130-plus points on a nightly basis is a fast track to a miserable winter. Throwing Brazile into the starting mix is a clear attempt to find some length, energy, or literally anyone willing to contest a shot.
Playing next to Jokic is usually the easiest job in basketball, but this new group has to figure out the spacing immediately. It is the kind of experiment that either looks like a stroke of tactical genius or ends with Malone burning the game tape in the locker room sink.
The timing is fascinating because Denver is walking right back into a rematch with . Just a few days ago, these two teams ran a 141-135 track meet that completely broke the scoreboard.
Anyone looking at the betting totals or Jokic assist props needs to factor in this new wrinkle. A fresh starter means different rotation patterns, and potentially a completely different pace if the defensive intensity actually shows up.
If this lineup clicks, the might finally find the two-way balance they have been desperately missing. If it flops, expect the rotation roulette to keep spinning when they travel to Phoenix on Friday.
