Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell announced Carson Wentz will start Monday night against Buffalo.

Carson Wentz is officially starting a Monday Night Football game in 2026, proving that time is a flat circle and the NFL scriptwriters are completely out of new ideas.

Tom Pelissero reported that head coach Kevin O'Connell is handing the offense over to Wentz against the Buffalo . The move comes because is dealing with a sore hamstring and has been officially ruled out for the prime-time matchup.

This is the kind of quarterback swap that sends betting totals straight into the earth's crust. Going from Murray's dynamic mobility to the full Carson Wentz experience completely changes the geometry of the field, and usually not for the better.

The timing is brutal for Minnesota. The are coming off a gritty 19-15 loss to the Detroit Lions where the offense already struggled to execute. Now they have to face a squad that just dismantled the 36-10.

If things go sideways under the prime-time lights, the safety net is Max Brosmer. For context, Brosmer is an undrafted second-year guy who threw zero touchdowns and four interceptions in his limited 2025 action. That is less of a safety net and more of a suggestion of a net.

Wentz does have over 16,800 career passing yards, which means he has seen every defensive look imaginable. But seeing the rush and avoiding the back-breaking turnover are two very different things. Watching him try to navigate a live pocket on national television is going to be premium entertainment for all the wrong reasons.

We will see if O'Connell can scheme up enough quick game to keep Wentz upright on Monday night. If not, the are going to take a massive hit in the standings while they wait for Murray's hamstring to finally cooperate.
