The Giants' QB Change Is Peak Front-Office Panic

The New York Giants' grand strategy for developing their rookie quarterback has officially transitioned from patient, methodical growth to throwing him in the deep end before the entire staff gets fired.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Giants are officially making a quarterback change, naming Jaxson Dart the new QB1 moving forward. This comes immediately after a brutal 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams that apparently broke whatever was left of the coaching staff's resolve.

Just a short time ago, the company line was that New York had absolutely no urgency to move on from Russell Wilson. They wanted to bring Dart along slowly. But as it turns out, scoring six points in a professional football game is a great way to accelerate a timeline. Schefter noted the change happened because everybody felt the pressure, which is front-office speak for realizing your keycard might stop working by Halloween.

Here is the truly incredible part of the Giants' big pivot. According to NFL Network reports, Dart is believed to have suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee during that exact same blowout loss to the Rams. So the master plan is to bench the veteran for the rookie, right after the rookie's knee gets bent the wrong way.

Next up on the schedule is a Sunday date with the Los Angeles Chargers. If you are looking at the betting markets, handing the keys to a hobbled rookie making his first start against a real NFL pass rush is the kind of recipe that makes point spreads jump a full field goal in the wrong direction.
