Spurs Go Full Chaos Mode With Four-Guard Lineup Around Wembanyama

Fantasy managers who drafted Dylan Harper are celebrating the rookie's promotion to the starting five.

Starting four guards and Victor Wembanyama sounds like a 2K lineup you make when you are down 15 in the fourth quarter and just want to spam the steal button.

But according to Underdog NBA, that is exactly what the San Antonio Spurs are doing. The team is rolling out De'Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, and Wembanyama on Friday against the Houston Rockets.

With Tobias Harris sidelined by a calf injury, San Antonio looked at their roster and decided traditional power forwards are a myth. It is objectively hilarious to surround a 7-foot-4 alien with four perimeter players, effectively turning Vassell into a frontcourt piece by default.

The Spurs are trying to bounce back from a 116-104 opening loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and they are throwing everything at the wall. Fox is reportedly playing through a questionable wrist issue, while Vassell comes in fresh off averaging 12.8 points and 6.8 rebounds over his last five games, per Statz AI.

If you are holding tickets on Spurs player props, this rotation is a nightmare to untangle. There is only one basketball, and at least three of these guys need it in their hands to be effective. It is great news for the fantasy sickos who drafted Harper, but terrible news for anyone trying to predict the usage rate.

We will find out Friday night if this spacing experiment actually works against Houston, or if the Spurs get bullied on the glass so badly they have to rethink the whole operation before traveling to Dallas to play the Mavericks on Sunday.
