Sources told @JFowlerESPN that Iosivas is expected to miss four to six weeks.

The are going to be without one of Joe Burrow's favorite red-zone security blankets for the next month. Wide receiver Andrei Iosivas is expected to miss four to six weeks with a thumb injury, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Adam Schefter.

Playing wide receiver without a fully functioning thumb is basically like trying to eat soup with a fork. You can make the effort, but the results are going to be messy and deeply frustrating for everyone watching.

This is an annoying pause for a guy who has carved out a very specific, highly effective niche in the offense. Iosivas is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound mismatch who makes his money in tight spaces.

For context on how specialized his role is, 11 of his 12 career touchdown catches have come from inside the opponent's 10-yard line. He is the guy Burrow looks for when the field shrinks and the playbook turns into a jump-ball contest.

The Bengals are coming off a 20-6 win over the where Iosivas only grabbed one catch for seven yards. He has just three catches for 19 yards through two games this season, but his value has always been about high-leverage moments rather than pure volume.

Anyone who regularly sprinkles a few dollars on anytime touchdown props knows exactly how frustrating this absence will be. Iosivas is the exact type of player who ruins a defensive game plan by boxing out a smaller defensive back on third-and-goal.

With Iosivas sidelined until at least late October, will have to funnel even more of those critical red-zone targets toward Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. The offense can survive this, but their margin for error near the goal line just got noticeably thinner.
